Book Babies 5.2

on December 4, 2013

zebras

Our handouts are printed on both sides of a normal sheet of paper, folded in half to form a brochure of sorts. This go-round I’ve used a high-contrast image (adapted from photographs) on our covers. I also have an image by each rhyme, which creates a nice talking point for children too young to read. …and because I’m a very visual person.

We open each program with Baby Hop, from the CD Diaper Gym.

Then we read the first of two books, which alternate depending on what is available. See my Book Babies/Lapsit Titles page for suggestions.

Hop your bunny

Hop your bunny up and

(hold up two fingers and lift hand)

Hop your bunny down

(bring two fingers down toward floor)

Hop your bunny side to side

(wave hand back and forth)

Hop him all around!

(move fingers around in a circle)

Hop him on your shoulder,

hop him on your head,

hop him on your knee,

and then put him to bed!

(Repeat with two bunnies)

Something In My Garden (For this we use stuffed animals, hidden behind the flannel board, usually 4 of them.)

There’s something in my garden,

That I can’t really see.

There’s something in my garden,

Now what can it be?

(noise)

Hear its funny sound?

(noise)

a _____ is what I found!

Put Your Finger On
by Parachute Express

Put your finger on,

put your finger on,

put your finger on your…nose!

Put your finger on,

put your finger on,

put your finger on your…nose!

Turn around and clap clap,

Turn around and clap clap,

Turn around and clap clap,

Turn around and clap clap.

Continue with other body parts

We read our second book here.

We Can Wear  (This is our signing song for the program)

Rocket

I am a rocket crouched on the ground,

(put arms over baby’s head for rocket’s nose)

Waiting quietly  Without a sound (put finger to lips)

Light this fuse on my little toe, (wiggle baby’s toe)

Ready for take-off? Here we go!

5…4…3…2…1… Whoooooooosh!

(let baby jump, or lift baby into air)

Five Little Ducks  by Raffi

CAM00237

Five little ducks went out one day,

Over the hills and far away.

When the mother duck said

Quack, quack, quack, quack!

Four little ducks came back!

Four little ducks…

Three little ducks…

Two little ducks…

One little duck…

Sad mother duck went out one day,

Over the hills and far away.

Mother duck said,

Quack, quack, quack, quack!

five little ducks came hurrying back!

(These duckling rest in a wrapping paper tube with slits for the sticks)

Then we play Personal Penguin by Sandra Boynton while we blow bubbles from our bubble machine.
